Healthy McDonald’s Hash Brown Copycat Recipe

Healthy McDonald's Hash Browns

McD's hash brown bars of heaven are always a good idea. Have a nasty hangover? Get yourself some hash browns. Kids screaming they want a treat for breakfast? Get yourself some hash browns. On your way home from the club at 6 am? Get yourself some hash browns. The only downside to these magical potato bars is that they are deep dried so not a great option if you wanted to incorporate this into your breakfast routine. UNTIL NOW!
May I present to you a baked fat free version of the almighty hash brown bar. I always assumed that frozen shredded potato was already deep fried and I was completely wrong. It's literally just frozen shredded potato. So make sure you by yourself some of that to make your life easier because ain't nobody got time to be shredded taters around here.
The only annoying thing to this recipe is you absolutely have to freeze these guys before cooking them for atleast 45 minutes so be sure to plan ahead! And be ready to eat them immediately. Since they are not deep fried, they only hold their crunch for a short time so you need to eat them right out of the oven!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups Shredded Potato Make sure its thawed
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbs Flour
  • .5 tsp Salt
  • .5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • .5 tsp Onion Powder

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, add your potato, egg, flour and all seasonings. Mix well.
  • Grab a sheet pan and line with parchment paper. Form 4 hash brown bars. You can also do circles or whatever shape you want.
  • Freeze for 45 minutes. Once there is about 10 minutes left, preheat your oven to 450 degrees
  • Remove the hash browns and parchment paper from the sheet pan. Spray the sheet pan generously with non stick spray. Add your hash brown bars on top(no parchment paper needed anymore).
  • Bake for 15 minutes. Flip over and bake for another 10 minutes. For extra crisp, flip over again and bake for 5 minutes. You need to serve these IMMEDIATELY!
