Low Fat French Onion Dip

Everyone's favorite party dip! Ok maybe just mine? I am a sucker for anything with onions! Typically made with a base of sour cream, onion dip is definitely not a healthy option. With just a few tweaks and the addition of real onion(versus that nasty pre-made powder mix), you will LOVE this dip! It's full of flavor and will be a hit at your next party.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs Butter
  • 2 Yellow Onions
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • .5 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 12 oz Non Fat Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 8 oz Neufchatel Cheese, Softened
  • 3-4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  • Peel onions and cut in half. Cut your halves in half. This is so the onion pieces are bite size and not long strips. Slice them as thin as possible.
  • Heat your butter over non stick skillet over medium heat. Add your onions, salt, pepper, sugar and garlic powder. The onions are going to cook for about 25-30 minutes, stirring every so often to prevent sticking. If your heat is too high, you can lower it a bit. Don't let the onions burn. They should start to become a deep golden color.
  • About 15 minutes in, add your dashes of Worcestershire sauce to the onions.
  • While your onions are cooking, grab a bowl and mix together your cream cheese and yogurt.
  • Once the onions are done cooking, let them cool down for 10 minutes. Combine with the dip and mix well. Serve with celery or baked chips!
